MISSIONS MINISTRY
The purpose of the Woodridge Missions Ministry is to reach out beyond the walls of our church to share Christ.
LOCAL MISSIONS
Local opportunities take place throughout the year and are a great way to serve and reach communities across our city, and even our nation.
Our schools are such important parts of our children’s lives and we want to help love kids and love teachers!
- Kids Hope – we partner with Kid’s Hope to mentor children at Hidden Hollow Elementary. This is a great program that can be summarized by One Kid, One Hour, Once a Week. Mentors may play games, read, complete a craft or just spend time with their student each week.
- Adopt a Teacher – We partner with Riverwood Middle School to adopt their staff. We pair church members with school staff so they will be encouraged through prayer, small gifts, and check-ins throughout the school year.
Community and taking care of one another is an integral part of our local mission efforts. We work to wrap around vulnerable families through meal support, meeting tangible needs as they arise, prayer and encouragement.
- Foster/Adoptive/Kinship Support Group – meets 2nd and 4th Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 8 pm. Childcare is available as needed. Led by Chris and Jennifer Bathurst. Click Here to Register
- N.E. Houston Foster Closet – we maintain a closet for foster/adoptive families to shop from as needs arise. The closet also provides placement packs for those receiving an emergency placements. You can find open shopping dates, amazon wish list, and volunteer sign up on Facebook by searching for N.E. Houston Foster Closet. Click Here to Learn More
- First Aid/CPR Certification Classes – we provide free First Aid/CPR classes for foster/adoptive families and their caregivers on an as needed basis. Contact Heather Wolf for more information.
We work with Family Promise to host families struggling with homelessness once a quarter. We provide a safe place to stay, meals and fellowship while they are here. Click Here to Learn More
- Embrace Grace – we partner with Embrace Grace to offer a weekly Bible study/support group for our young moms dealing with unplanned pregnancy. In addition, we take care of tangible needs, provide meal support and prayer/encouragement.
- LifeLine and Community Pregnancy Center – come and volunteer with these organizations at Promise House on Mondays or Fridays from 10 am to 2 pm. They are looking for Baby Boutique hosts, client advocates and ultrasound techs. Contact Monica at LifeLine for more information.
There are other partnerships we have with local non-profits who are serving the vulnerable in our community.
- Mission Northeast – we provide financial and volunteer support to this organization who provides assistance to those struggling with poverty. Further, we provide supplies through our Woodridge Cares program.
- Higher Expectations Church – we partner with Higher Expectations to serve the Lake Houston area through their Blessings in a Backpack Program and their After School Care program.
- Baptist Mission Centers of Houston – the Mission Centers serve inner city Houston throughout the year. We post volunteer opportunities as they come up.
INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS
Our mission trips are designed to assist missionaries and pastors in reaching their communities with long-term church planting as the goal. Trip formats include ethnography, eye clinics*, evangelism, or even sports camps.
*Eye clinics are led by Sight Ministries International.
CHURCH PLANTING
Church planting is an important part of our Missions ministry.
BE A KIDS HOPE MENTOR
If you have a passion for working with kids, you should consider being a Kid’s Hope mentor! Our mentors serve at a local elementary school for one hour each week. As a mentor you might spend your hour reading, talking, or playing games with at-risk students. This is a ministry that has a huge impact on our community. If you would like more information about serving, please contact Heather Wolf.
Missions Podcast
Send Relief is working with local partners and churches in Syria and Turkey to respond to critical needs. Within hours of the disaster, local partners began providing blankets, water bottles, food and other emergency supplies in impacted neighborhoods. Your donations are vital to these efforts and a blessing to those in need. For updates on the support efforts in Syria and Turkey, please contact Scott Settegast.
